Matthew and Becky Walker, Lead Pastor
How I Came to College Park:
I believe that God called me to the ministry during the first Gulf War (Desert Storm). I was serving with the Second Supply Battalion stationed in Saudi Arabia near the Kuwaiti border. The exact timing of that call I cannot remember. I only know that when I left America I was still planning on becoming a politician and when I returned I knew God wanted me to be a pastor.
After returning to the United States, I graduated from Bob Jones University, married my wife Becky, and we set out together to serve the Lord. God has graciously allowed us to serve Him as an assistant Pastor in Pennsylvania, as a representative for Bob Jones University in the Mid-west, and then as a church planting intern at Fairfax Baptist Temple. In January 2003 our family moved to Morrisville and we planted College Park.
What I'm Reading:
I read World Magazine twice a month. I also just finished reading a book about a NYC woman who married two different men who were in the Italian mob. I am also taking a class at Maranatha Baptist Bible College and trying to figure out the meaty stuff in Charles Ryrie’s book Dispensationalism
What I'm Preaching:
Our theme for 2010 is Contending For The Faith. We are finishing that up with a series on How To Help Hurting People. In the fight for our faith some become casualties of war. The goal of the series is to learn how to help them. On the third Sunday evening of each month I preach on the Cross as we remember the Lord’s Supper. Our theme for 2011 is A God-Glorifying Church and I’ll be preaching through the book of 1 Corinthians. |
