How To Get To Heaven

You have a great need!

My friend, it is vitally important that you read this gospel tract. Your eternal future depends on your response. The Bible teaches that you are a sinner in that "all have sinned" (Romans 3:23). You are sinful by nature; out of your heart comes all sin (Matthew 15:19). You have not lived completely sinless either. God says that "there is none righteous, no not one" (Romans 3:10). He holds you accountable in that you have rejected His offer of salvation from sin—this is the biggest sin of all. "He that believeth not is condemned already . . ." (John 3:18). You are, by your own choosing, an enemy of God. "Because the carnal mind is enmity against God" (Romans 8:7). God has set Himself against you. God will not hear your prayers. You cannot expect Him to bless you. You cannot expect anything from Him but judgment. "Your iniquities have separated between you and your God . . ." (Isaiah 59:2).

What makes this so important is that God will eternally judge sin (Romans 6:23). He will judge you! The Bible teaches that after we die is "the judgment" (Hebrews 9:27). What will you be judged for? Your works—actions and behavior, thoughts—will judge you. "I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God . . . and the dead were judged . . . according to their works" (Revelation 20:12).

After being found guilty you will be sentenced to everlasting torment. The agony and pains of Hell—the place where you will go after you die here on earth—and the Lake of Fire—the place you will spend eternity—have no human words that can fully describe the suffering of the damned soul. There is no escape. Jesus Christ said that it would be better to cut off your hand or foot, or even gouge out your eyes then enter eternity doomed for Hell. It is the place where "the fire is not quenched" (Mark 9:48). You have a great need because you are God enemy and are on the road that leads to eternal hell!

You cannot meet this need yourself!

But wait! What about my good works? Won't God give me some credit for the good things that I do? Can't I get into heaven and avoid hell by doing good things or being religious?

No, my friend, you cannot. Your best intentions will only lead you into eternal judgment: "There is a way that seemeth right . . . but the end thereof are the ways of death" (Proverbs 14:12). Many moral people are headed down the broad road that leads to destruction (Matthew 7:13). The Bible says that salvation is "not of myself, it is the gift of God" (Ephesians 2:8). God will not accept you for your being a good person.

Religion cannot save you either. All the things that come with religion are great: church membership, Christian fellowship, charitable giving, and compassion on the poor. These are all good things. But God demands perfection (Matthew 5:20). You can't do that even if you really try. " Many will say in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not . . . done many wonderful works? And then I will profess unto them . . . depart from me" (Matthew 7:22-23). Being religious will not save you. The only way to God is through His plan—Jesus Christ. Other religions are outside the " way, truth, and life" (John 14:6). Jesus alone was perfect. He alone can meet your need!

God has a plan for meeting your need.

Yet God loves you!! This is the good news of the Bible. God loves you so much that even though you are worthy of eternal death He "sent [Jesus] into the world, that [you] might live through Him" (I John 4:9).

He loves you unconditionally. There is nothing you have to do—nothing you can do to gain His love. "Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent [Jesus Christ] to be the [substitute] for our sins" (I John 4:10). We don't deserve this love from God. Salvation is certainly "not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us . . ." (Titus 3:5). In fact, God loves us in spite of our sins: "But God commendeth His love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8).

God loves you so much that He died [and rose again] in your place. He lives now so that you would not have to pay the penalty for your sin. His sacrifice paid the penalty once and for all. "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever [that means you] believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life" (John 3:16). "For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that ye through His poverty might be rich" (II Corinthians 8:9). We have been redeemed (purchased) by the blood of Jesus and we don't have to pay for our sins anymore (Colossians 1:14). Why pay twice?!

You ask: "How can I accept God's plan?"

Do it now! "Behold, now is the accepted time; now is the day of salvation" (II Corinthians 6:2). Getting saved is so simple and so free that anyone—you can do it. Salvation requires two things that really are completely linked. You have to reject, totally, any attempt to save yourself (repentance) and put your complete confidence on God (faith).

God has offered Himself to you through this short gospel tract. "God now commands [you] to repent" (Acts 17:30). Repentance is not just 'feeling sorry' for your sin. It is a complete rejection of it. You must give up your old way of thinking. Instead of trying to reform the outside you must admit that, on the inside, you are completely sinful (Joel 2:13). Repentance is a change of direction. Even as you reject your old way of thinking you must reject your old way of living. You must desire change. You must beg God to "be merciful to me, a sinner" (Luke 18:13). Right now, say those words. "God be merciful to me a sinner. I reject my old life. Forgive me for my sin."

Yet even as you are rejecting your old way of life you must accept God's new way for living. "If you believe with all your heart" you will be saved (Acts 8:37). This means asking God to save you. Anyone will be saved when he asks God to save him: "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved" (Romans 10:13). Accept God's free gift of salvation right now. "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved" (Acts 16:31). It only takes your confession of this—ask God now. "If you will confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved" (Romans 10:9). Right now, ask Jesus Christ to come into your heart and save you. Pray these words: " Lord, even ask I have reject my old way of living I want you to become my Savior. Please come into my heart and save me from my sins. I trust you alone to do this. Thank you for saving me."
